New River Chapter

On 2nd March 2026, New River Chapter No 4502 was repurposed to become a chapter for companions with an interest in the sport of rowing.

The convocation saw a mixture of emotions, as the existing members reflected fondly on the Chapter’s past, and of excitement in anticipation of the new direction and the ambition expressed for the future.

Thirteen joining members were balloted for successfully during the convocation; and applications for two Exaltees were read out.

After the close of the convocation, Metropolitan Grand Inspector, E Comp David Ellis OBE was delighted to see the Charter symbolically handed over from E Comp Nick White – who was the Acting MEZ – to the safe keeping of E Comp Ken Wootton who has led the team of incoming companions to secure such a great future for the chapter.  Most pleasingly, E Comp Alex Sloper will remain a member and continue through to Second and then First Principal of the Chapter of which his father was a Founder.

The companions have now charted a course for New River Chapter which will not just ensure its survival but will see it continue to thrive and to grow to become a great success.
